Frog On His Own is another one of Mayer's graphic novels that tells the story of a young boy's pet frog that escapes in the City Park to go have adventures of his own. The resulting story is of frog's mishaps along the way, and in the end it is apparent he is better off sticking with his friends.
This story would also be appropriate for a writing lesson and would provide students with a humorous tale to describe. Mayer is descriptive with his drawings in a way that the story is easily depicted so that young students could create their own narrative easily.
